Well, things have been going well, except that these past 3 days have been a bit more trying than usual. Kristy and I did some reading and Caleb is exhibiting most all of the signs like a literal checklist of colic. We're hoping it isn't the case, but he can have everything okay one minute and then the next he's blowing up with a single loud cry. It appears his cry is the same for anything which is one of the big signs of colic. He can be sound asleep one minute and then blowing up the next for a few minutes. We're happy to hear it lasts only until about 12 weeks, but worried about being able to rest and keep up. Keep him in your prayers!!!
We had our follow-up appointment for Caleb today and he is doing great! He weighs back in at his normal birth weigh plus some. This time his weight was 7 lbs 5.5oz up from 6 lbs 8 oz on 01/15. The doctor says he is progressing very well and is looking forward to getting his PKU results next week. We had to go back over to the hospital to get this done which was a big change from when we were in Florida and Amber's pediatrician used to do it in his office. His nights are still out of sorts, but overall it has been okay.
We had our first doctor visit for little Caleb. Amber got to stay home from school today and was really excited to hear we were going to the doctor. We had to explain how they share the same doctor and she was really excited. Kids are so easy to entertain sometimes!!!! :-) Well, after a long wait in the "room", the doctor came in and said he appeared to have a little jaundice. She had a few blood tests ran and gave us a few tips. We're going to monitor him and go back next week to report back on things. She wants Kristy to pump and then feed so that we can get a good read on what he is taking in. We're going to try to do some split scheduling tonight so we don't end up both being so exhausted tomorrow. He's doing great today again. Can't believe it will be one week tomorrow!!! Yeah!!!! Oh, the test results all came back great, no problems per the doctor on the phone call tonight.
Well, our little Caleb has his schedule a little backward. Kristy and I had this same issue with Amber. He is sleeping during the day and up all night. Monday night we got a few hours sleep if that, Tuesday night was even worse. He wants to stay up all night and wants to be held to go to sleep. If you get him to sleep as soon as you try to slip away, he's back up screaming again wanting to be held. We're trying hard to catch all of his little signals and look forward to flipping things around. Tonight (Wednesday), I was burping the little fellow and he puked up a little bit of a bloody mucus. I suspect it was from the birth, but we called the doctor just in case to get a feel on things. He's fine otherwise, no fevers or change in his demeanor. She wants to see him tomorrow morning to check him out. We'll see how it goes and report back.
Great news! Amber is feeling much better now and we went to bring home little Caleb and Kristy. All are doing well. We're excited to have everyone home. We've setup Amber's old bassinet downstairs and Caleb's new bassinet upstairs in our room. We also found Amber's little swing from when she was little and set it up downstairs. We'll see how the days and nights go from here.
Whew! What a day!! We started back up at 3am after going to bed shortly after midnight. My alarm was set to wake me up at 3:30am, but my dad accidentally opened the window in the bathroom and set off the house alarm. Talk about springing up!! I had to run over and see what zone was set off and then call the alarm company and get that cancelled. After I got off the phone and climbed back into bed to lay down for a few minutes with a small headache throbbing, my dad came in and asked if I liked my morning wake up call!! hahahahaha He didn't know it was a monitored system and I told him about my adventures while he was in the shower :) We had to get up and move the futon from Caleb's room upstairs to the front room downstairs before he left. As we were swinging it over the bannister to carry it down the bed part decided to come down. I just barely got my middle finger loose when it slammed down. Man, talk about guardian angels!! I almost lost my finger. whew!!! So we get it downstairs, and start getting things ready to go. Amber wakes up and hurls all over the floor and her bed. Wow!!! Jennifer tackled that and gave Amber a quick bath while I washed the sheets and her other stuff, cleaning up the puke on the floor, etc. Once that was done, we take up and load up in the car, completely forget to grab a bucket for Amber for any repeat incidents.... Well about 15 miles down the road she hurls again in the floor..wow!!! Talk about a trooper, Jennifer is on clean up again in freezing temps on the side of the freeway trying to clean off Amber... Argh!! Once we finally get them to the airport and get back home, Amber decides to hurl again...wow! So we crash out and she goes to sleep on the futon, but wakes up to hurl 3 more times. She finally started keep things down after lunch with gatorade to start and then moved to saltines and gatorade. So far, so good, she's keeping it all down, but having digestive issues and a low fever. Fingers crossed all will clear up tomorrow. Kristy and Caleb are scheduled for release tomorrow if all goes well. Caleb had his circumcision today and did great. Kristy's still battling some low blood pressure issues and hopes to get those cleared up prior to release. Keep her in your prayers!!!
Well, we're all beat! I didn't get but a few hours sleep last night after we came back from the nursery. Kristy was getting the normal poking and proding visits during the night so we're both beat. We were finally able to get some rest in during the morning and early afternoon before my dad, Amber and Jennifer came back to see the baby. They actually brought Caleb by about 830 this morning and we were able to catch some rest in between feedings. It's great to have him in with us!! Tonight will be long as we have a bunch of stuff to get done before Amber and I get home. My dad and Jennifer fly out at 05:30am tomorrow, so we still have some packing to do and final touches to wrap up.
Yeah!!! He's here! We had some minor difficulties to contend with, but both mama and baby are doing well. Kristy went into the operating room at about 5:15 and after they got her all setup she started to have issues with her blood pressure and heart rate. They called me back about 5:35 or so and told me about the issues. She was having a hard time breathing and they were giving her some oxygen to help out. The baby was delivered at 5:42 CT officially. When they went in, he had turned around and was not breech any longer, but had the cord around his neck. He was really dark, almost bluish purple when they pulled him out as I watched. They got the cord off his neck quickly and moved him over for some more checks. Within a few minutes they were able to get most of the fluids from his lungs and then advised they needed to take him to the NICU since he was still retaining a lot of fluid and was breathing heavily. We went over to show Kristy the baby and then ran off to the NICU for the official weigh in and to tackle the fluids some more. They put him on oxygen and kept trying to work the fluids out. After the initial weigh in, they told me the figures and asked that I come back after the NICU was open again in about 2 hours. I went off to see Kristy and found her in recovery. She was doing much better than before and when I saw her, I had tears of joy when I saw her, and she took them as tears of sadness and started to panic. I had to calm her down and reassure her that all is going to be fine. By just after dinner time, Kristy was moved up to her room, Amber had come back with my dad and Jennifer from school and dinner but the baby was still in NICU. My dad and I went down to check on the baby at 8:30 when NICU opened back up and held him. While we were there we took some video of the baby and some pictures to take back to Jennifer and Kristy to see. It worked out great!! By about 1:30/2am, Caleb was released from NICU and taken to the nursery. I asked that Kristy be able to go down so we could see the baby. The nurse spoke with the nursery folks and gave us a private viewing in a side nursery with Caleb. Kristy was so excited to be able to see him and hold him too. We're going to try to get some rest now and start Saturday up in a few hours.
Kristy had her last appointment today. Things are going great! She's all set for delivery on Friday evening. We have to be at the hospital by 2pm for checkin and pre-work. My dad and sister, Jennifer, will be in tomorrow night. Yeah!!! She's an RN herself, so it will be nice to have some good insight into things. Keep us in your prayers!!!
Things are looking up for us! We're going to deliver on January 9th at 5:30pm. The doctor wasn't really happy with pushing the delivery so close, so his people called the hospital people and well....things are now fixed! We can't wait. Kristy's appointments are going great and the baby is progressing well too! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!!!
